I was born and raised in the San Fernando Valley, which is sort of the model for suburban hell.  I lived in an old neighborhood, and I spent my time playing sports and going to Catholic School.  Anyway, one day when I was 12, I pulled one of my brother’s old guitars out of a closet along with a chord book, and taught myself how to play.  Eventually, I played in a few garage bands.  Somehow I got a partial scholarship to Cal State Northridge for classical guitar performance, and I did that gig for 3 years.  I am still a great student of serious music.  As far as singing goes, I sang in some big choirs in college, but I never considered myself a rock singer until I fronted this band.  But I’d say things worked out OK.

I’ve known Rick Holton since I was 9 years old.  He lived down the street from me.  We had paper routes. We made go-carts out of refrigerator boxes, 2 by 4s and wagon wheels.  Then he moved away, but I would visit and bring my guitar.  So he got his own guitar, and we’d jam whenever I visited.   A few years later, right about the time I was getting restless and flat broke in college, he moved back to L.A., and we started our first band, which would eventually evolve into "Green Vinyl Dream".  The rest, as they say...
